In 2023, Westhill CSD established the Power of WE award to recognize individuals who positively impact the Westhill school community with their energy, effort, and enthusiasm. This award is open to anyone in the district, in any job title or role. It is based on the premise that each of us has the incredible power to be a champion for kids and a light of positivity in the lives of those around us by choosing our attitude and going through life with energy, effort and enthusiasm. We are a stronger community and our students are better off because of the influence of these individuals.

Middle School Science Teacher Selected For Prestigious Program
Onondaga Hill Middle School Science teacher Tracy Derrenbacher has been recognized by Governor Kathy Hochul as one of 144 STEM teachers for the New York State Master Teacher Program, a professional network of more than 1,700 public-school teachers with a passion for inspiring the next generation of educational leaders. During her four-year participation in the program, Tracy will be engaged in peer mentoring and intensive content-oriented professional development opportunities throughout the academic year and work closely with pre-service and early career teachers to foster a supportive environment for the next generation of STEM teachers. New Nickname at Westhill:
Dear Westhill Community,
On June 12, 2023, the Westhill Board of Education passed a resolution committing to changing our school nickname by the end of the 2024-2025 school year following a mandate from the State Education Department. After months of collaboration, planning, and community input, the Board of Education adopted a resolution at the Board of Education meeting this evening to change the district’s nickname to the Westhill Wolf Pack , effective July 1, 2025.

Forty-six Westhill High School students/graduates have been named Advanced Placement Scholars by The College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations. Several levels of achievement are recognized based on the number of year-long courses and examinations (or their equivalent semester-long courses and examinations).
Eight students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Examinations taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these examinations. NHS Induction 2024:
The Westhill High School Chapter of the National Honor Society Spring Induction Ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Forty-six members of the junior class joined the current membership made up of 68 seniors. It was an exciting evening filled with celebration. The Senior Class officers reviewed the National Honor Society Qualities during the candle lighting ceremony. Current NHS officers include: President Emily Rinaldi, Vice President Molly Thompson, Secretary Connor Knohl, and Treasurer Cade Caloia.

OHMS Students Place in Chess Tournament:
OHMS Students Place at Chess Tournament
Congratulations to OHMS students John Samhammer, Joseph Widrick and Jonathan Masset who competed in the Pine Grove Scholastic Chess Open tournament on April 6th.
John and Joseph both went 3-1 and tied for fifth place. Jonathan went 3-0-1 and ended up tied for third place. As a team, their combined scores brought home the overall first place for the K-5 division. This tournament had almost 80 participants split between the K-5 and K-12 divisions, with over thirty schools involved.

2024 NAMM Best Communities for Music Education:
The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation has announced the results of its 24th annual “Best Communities for Music Education” survey, which acknowledges schools and districts across the U.S. for their commitment and support of music education in schools.
The Westhill Central School District has once again been named as one of the NAMM Foundation’s 2024 Best Communities in the nation for Music Education for the 8th consecutive year. Districts that have been recognized by the NAMM Foundation are often held up as models for other educators looking to boost their own music education programs.

Westhill Boys Basketball Captures Sectional Title:
On March 1st the Westhill [21-2] boys basketball team defeated Central Valley Academy 59-52 in the Section III Class A Championship at SRC Arena. The team was led by Eli Welch with 20 points, Kam Langdon with 17 and Eli Prince with 16. Charlie DeMore contributed with 4 steals and 1 block.

Boys & Girls Indoor Track & Field Win Sectional Championship:
The Westhill Boys made it a 3-peat in a close meet that came down to the wire for the Sectional Championship. Drew O'Reilly placed 1st in the 3200m, Owen Mulholland placed 1st in the 600m, and the 3200m Relay team picked up 1st place [Drew O'Reilly, Alex Dacko, Bryce Burdick, Ed Pop].
The Westhill Girls won the Sectional Championship handedly scoring 137 points. Izzy Leonardo had a huge night winning first place in the triple jump, high jump and the 600m. Other first place finishers of the night include: MK Rewakowski in the pole vault, Jael Hill in the shot put, and Emma Murphy in the 55m Hurdles.

Westhill Students Receive Scholastic Art Awards:
Nine Westhill High School photography students have received awards in the 2024 Scholastic Art Awards competition.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were launched in 1923 to encourage and recognize student achievement in the creative arts. Each year the Scholastic Awards attract over 350,000 entries in 28 categories of writing and the visual arts. Recognized artwork is evaluated on originality, technical skill and personal vision.
The artwork will be on display for public viewing in the Whitney Building at OCC from February 5th through March 1st.

Universal Pre-K Registration 2024-2025:
The Westhill Central School District is pleased to once again offer a 4-year-old UPK program for the 2024-2025 school year.
To be eligible, a child must:
· Have a birthdate between December 2, 2019 and December 1, 2020.
· Reside in the Westhill Central School District.
· Agree to attend the program 6 hours a day for 5 days per week.
Instruction is consistent with the New York State Pre-Kindergarten Standards, which focuses on a child’s social/emotional, cognitive and physical development.

True Crime Class Explores Podcasting at LeMoyne College’s Keenan Center for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity
The True Crime class at Westhill High School visited LeMoyne College’s Keenan Center for Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Creativity to delve into the power of podcasting. After listening to a local podcast entitled Firecracker, The Murder of Carol Ryan, students had the opportunity to talk about the local cold case and obtain expert advice from its creator Katrina Tulloch, a journalist for Syracuse.com. The students are now exploring a true crime case of their own choosing, uncovering the facts through in-depth research, and learning the art of storytelling by creating their own podcasts.
