Westhill Music Education Program Receives National Recognition :
The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation has announced the results of its 23rd annual “Best Communities for Music Education” survey, which acknowledges schools and districts across the U.S. for their commitment and support of music education in schools.
The Westhill Central School District has been named as one of the NAMM Foundation’s Best Communities in the nation for Music Education for the 6th consecutive year.
The Best Communities Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. Black History Month:
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements and contributions by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976, calling upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
Black History Month has been celebrated in the United States and around the world every February since, with all U.S. presidents recognizing February as Black History Month. Native American Heritage Month:
November is Native American Heritage Month . The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.

October is Global Diversity Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the positive impact diverse cultures, ethnicities and voices can have in a school community and society at large. Hispanic Heritage Month:
Since our founding, the United States has drawn strength from the diversity of our people. Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15.
